The work done by a force is given by the formula:

Work (W) = Force (F) x Distance (d) x cos(θ)

Substituting the given values:

W = 50N x 10m x cos(60°)

W = 500J x 0.5

W = 250J


Explanation

When a force acts on a body, and the body moves in the direction of the force, work is done. The work done is equal to the product of the force and the distance moved in the direction of the force. However, if the force is acting at an angle to the direction of motion, then only the component of the force acting in the direction of motion does work. This component is given by the formula:

F cos(θ)

Where F is the force and θ is the angle between the force and the direction of motion. Thus, the work done is given by:

W = F cos(θ) x d

where d is the distance moved in the direction of motion.

In this problem, the force is acting at an angle of 60° to the direction of motion. Therefore, only the component of the force acting in the direction of motion is doing work. This component is given by:

F cos(60°) = 50N x cos(60°) = 25N

The work done is therefore:

W = F cos(60°) x d = 25N x 10m = 250J
