Sodium fusion test. This test involves converting the nitrogen in the organic compound into a water-soluble sodium cyanide compound.

The Lassaigne's test is performed as follows:

1. Take a small amount of the organic compound in a test tube.
2. Add a small piece of sodium metal to the test tube.
3. Heat the test tube gently until the sodium metal melts and reacts with the organic compound.
4. Continue heating until the reaction is complete and the organic compound is completely decomposed.
5. Allow the test tube to cool.
6. Add a few drops of distilled water to the test tube and mix well.
7. Transfer the mixture to a clean test tube.
8. Add a few drops of ferrous sulfate solution (FeSO4) to the test tube.
9. Add a few drops of dilute sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to the test tube.
10. Heat the test tube gently and observe for the formation of a blue precipitate.
11. If a blue precipitate is formed, it indicates the presence of nitrogen in the organic compound.

The blue precipitate formed in the Lassaigne's test is due to the formation of Prussian blue, which is a complex compound containing iron and cyanide ions. The presence of nitrogen in the organic compound can be confirmed by this test.
