The mini steel companies were honoured for their contribution to the national economy. The awards were presented by Union Minister of Steel, Chaudhary Birender Singh. 12 companies were given Gold Certificates and 14 companies were given Silver Certificates for their performance during 2016-17. Steel is one of the core sectors of Indian economy. India is the 3rd largest steel producer in the world. Steel contributes more than 2% to India's GDP.
