Calculation of New Profit Sharing Ratio:

  • The existing ratio of profit sharing between X and Y is 5:3.

  • It is decided that the profit sharing ratio between Y and Z shall be the same as existing between X and Y.

  • Therefore, the new profit sharing ratio between X, Y, and Z will be 5:3:3.

Calculation of Sacrificing Ratio:

  • The sacrificing ratio is the ratio in which the existing partners give up their share of profits to make room for the new partner.

  • In this case, X and Y are the existing partners and Z is the new partner.

  • The sacrificing ratio will be the ratio in which X and Y will give up their share of profits to make room for Z.

  • The sacrificing ratio can be calculated as follows:

Sacrificing ratio of X = (New ratio of X / Existing ratio of X) - 1

Sacrificing ratio of Y = (New ratio of Y / Existing ratio of Y) - 1

  • Substituting the values, we get:

Sacrificing ratio of X = (3 / 5) - 1 = -0.4

Sacrificing ratio of Y = (3 / 3) - 1 = 0

  • The sacrificing ratio of X is negative, which means that X will have to bear a loss in order to make room for Z.

  • The sacrificing ratio of Y is zero, which means that Y will not have to give up any share of profits to make room for Z.
