Calculation of Water formed from Hydrogen and Oxygen Reaction

Given:

  • 4 gm of Hydrogen

  • 4 gm of Oxygen

Reaction:

  • 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O

Solution:

  • Molar mass of Hydrogen = 2 gm/mol

  • Molar mass of Oxygen = 32 gm/mol

  • Number of moles of Hydrogen = 4/2 = 2 mol

  • Number of moles of Oxygen = 4/32 = 0.125 mol

  • Ratio of moles of Hydrogen and Oxygen = 2:0.125 = 16:1

  • So, 0.125 mol of Oxygen will react with 2 mol of Hydrogen to produce 2 mol of Water

  • Molar mass of Water = 18 gm/mol

  • Mass of Water produced = 2 x 18 = 36 gm

Answer:

  • The weight of water formed from the given reaction is 36 gm or 4*9=36. Therefore, the option 3. 4.5 gm is correct.
