The two ends of a train moving with constant acceleration pass a certain point with velocities 6 kmph and 8 kmph respectively. what is the velocity with which the middle point of the train passes the same point?
Verified Answer
The two ends of a train moving with constant acceleration pass a certa...
S = (v^2 - u^2) / (2a)

If Length of train is L then
L = ((3u)^2 - u^2) / (2a)
L = 4u^2 / a —-(1)

Midpoint is at Distance L/2
S = (v^2 - u^2) / (2a)
L/2 = (v^2 - u^2) / (2a)
From equation (1)
2u^2 / a = (v^2 - u^2) / (2a)
4u^2 = v^2 - u^2
v^2 = 5u^2
v = u√5

Velocity with which middle point passes the same point is u√5.

Approach:
1. Identify the Problem:
- The problem states the initial velocities of the two ends of a train and asks for the velocity at which the middle point of the train passes a certain point.
2. Understand the Situation:
- The train is moving with constant acceleration.
- The initial velocities of the two ends are given as 6 kmph and 8 kmph.
3. Use the Concept of Average Velocity:
- The velocity of the middle point of the train can be calculated using the concept of average velocity.
- The average velocity of an object moving with constant acceleration is given by the average of its initial and final velocities.
4. Calculate the Average Velocity:
- Average velocity = (Initial velocity + Final velocity) / 2
- Average velocity of the train = (6 + 8) / 2 = 7 kmph
5. Conclusion:
- The velocity with which the middle point of the train passes the point is 7 kmph.
