Calculation of the Combined Mean and Standard Deviation of Male and Female Workers

Given:
- Average wages of male workers = 55/
- Average wages of female workers = 70/
- Standard deviation of male workers = Rs 22
- Standard deviation of female workers = Rs 15.40
- Total number of male workers = 80/

Step 1: Calculate the weighted average of male and female workers' wages
- Weighted average of male workers' wages = (average wages of male workers x number of male workers) = (55 x 80) = 4400
- Weighted average of female workers' wages = (average wages of female workers x number of female workers) = (70 x 20) = 1400
- Combined total wages = (weighted average of male workers' wages + weighted average of female workers' wages) = (4400 + 1400) = 5800
- Combined mean (x̄) = (combined total wages / total number of workers) = (5800 / 100) = 58/

Step 2: Calculate the combined standard deviation
- Calculate the variance for male workers: variance = (standard deviation)² = (22)² = 484
- Calculate the variance for female workers: variance = (standard deviation)² = (15.40)² = 237.16
- Calculate the weighted average of the variances: (variance of male workers x number of male workers + variance of female workers x number of female workers) = (484 x 80 + 237.16 x 20) = 39016.8
- Calculate the standard deviation: square root of the variance = square root of 39016.8 = 197.53

Conclusion:
- The combined mean (x̄) of all workers is 58/
- The combined standard deviation is Rs 197.53.
