Understanding the Data
- Total applications = 100%
- ST candidates: 20%
- SC candidates: 25% of the remaining (80%)
- OBC candidates: 7/18 of the remaining applications
- UR candidates: Remaining applications
Calculating Each Category
- ST Candidates:
- Total applications filled by ST = 20% of total
- Boys to girls ratio = 5:1
- Let total applications filled by ST = 20x
- Boys = (5/6) * 20x = 100x/6
- Girls = (1/6) * 20x = 20x/6
- SC Candidates:
- Remaining applications after ST = 80%
- SC = 25% of remaining = 25% of 80% = 20% of total
- Girls in SC = Girls in ST + 63
- OBC Candidates:
- Remaining after ST and SC = 60%
- OBC applications = (7/18) * remaining
- Ratio of boys to girls = 9:5
- UR Candidates:
- Remaining applications = Total applications - (ST + SC + OBC)
Total Girls in All Categories
- Total girls in all categories = 406
- Girls in ST + SC + OBC + UR = 406
Calculating OBC Boys
- Let total applications filled by OBC = 60% of total applications.
- OBC boys = (9/14) of OBC applications.
Calculating SC & OBC Girls
- Total girls in SC = Girls in ST + 63
- Girls in OBC = (5/14) of OBC applications.
Final Calculation
- Total applications filled by OBC boys = OBC Boys.
- Total applications filled by SC and OBC girls = SC Girls + OBC Girls.
- Calculate the percentage decrease:
- Percentage decrease = [(Total applications filled by SC & OBC girls - Total applications filled by OBC boys) / Total applications filled by SC & OBC girls] * 100.
- The result confirms that OBC boys are 10% less than SC & OBC girls, hence the answer is option E: 10%.
