Throttle valve in refrigeration system

Throttle valve is an important component used in the refrigeration system to perform the function of expansion of refrigerant. It is used to reduce the pressure of the high-pressure refrigerant liquid coming from the condenser to the low-pressure refrigerant liquid before it enters the evaporator.

Constant enthalpy process

Throttling is a constant enthalpy process in which there is a reduction in the pressure of the refrigerant without any change in the enthalpy of the refrigerant. The refrigerant as it expands through the throttle valve experiences a decrease in pressure and temperature. As a result, it changes from a high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure liquid-vapour mixture.

Expansion cylinder

Expansion cylinder is another component used in the refrigeration system to perform the function of expansion of refrigerant. It is used to expand the high-pressure refrigerant liquid coming from the condenser to the low-pressure refrigerant liquid before it enters the evaporator. The refrigerant is passed through the expansion cylinder where it is allowed to expand and reduce its pressure and temperature.
