    Verified Answer
A spot welding obtained with a current of 40000 A for a period of 0.01...
    Given,
    Current (I) = 40000 A
    Time (t1) = 0.01s
    Resistance (R) = 120μΩ = 120x 10-6 Ω
Nugget formed is cylindrical with diameter (dn) = 6mm
    Height (hn) = 3 mm
Total heat required for melting steel = 10 J/mm3

    So heat required for melting steel = 10x34.82 = 848.2 J
    So, heat lost surrounding per nugget = 1920 - 848.2 = 1071.8 J

Calculation of Heat Distributed to Surroundings in Spot Welding

    Given data:
    Current (I) = 40000 A
    Time (t) = 0.01 sec
    Effective resistance (R) = 120 micro ohms = 0.00012 ohms
    Diameter of cylinder (d) = 6 mm
    Height of cylinder (h) = 3 mm
    Heat required for melting steel (Q) = 10 J/mm3

    Formula used:
    Heat (H) = I²Rt

    Calculation:
    Area of cylinder (A) = πd²/4 = 0.02827 mm²
    Volume of cylinder (V) = Ah = 0.08481 mm³ = 8.481×10^-8 m³
    Resistance (r) = R(V/A) = 0.042 ohms
    Heat (H) = I²rt = 64.32 J
    Heat distributed to surroundings (Q) = HV = 64.32×8.481×10^-8 = 0.00545 J
    Total heat distributed to surroundings = Q × Q = 0.00545 × 196 = 1.0678 J
Rounding off to one decimal place, we get the answer as 1071.8 J.

    Answer: 1071.8 J
