Speed of boat in still water = 9 km/hr
Speed of stream = 3 km/hr
Let the distance traveled be d km

Speed of boat downstream = (9+3) km/hr = 12 km/hr
Speed of boat upstream = (9-3) km/hr = 6 km/hr

Let time taken to travel downstream be t1 hours
Let time taken to travel upstream be t2 hours

According to the problem, t2 = t1 + 8

Formula:
Distance = Speed × Time

Calculation:
Distance downstream = 12t1
Distance upstream = 6t2

d = Distance downstream + Distance upstream
d = 12t1 + 6(t1+8)
d = 18t1 + 48

Also, we know that
Distance = Speed × Time

t1 = d/12
t2 = d/6

Substituting the values of t1 and t2 in the equation t2 = t1 + 8, we get

d/6 = d/12 + 8
d/6 - d/12 = 8
d/12 = 8
d = 96 km
