Stereochemical inversion also titled as Walden inversion occurs during sn2 mechanism the atoms or groups in a dissymmetric molecule. The reagent attacks the substrate from back side and produces inversion in the configuration.
Regarding racemisation the concept occurs when the solution contains equal amounts of two optical isomers which rotate the plane polarised light in opposite directions and net rotation is zero. This mainly occurs during sn1 mechanism.
