Why is armature of a dc machine made of silicon steel stampings?a)To r...
Armature of a DC machine is made of silicon steel stampings due to the following reasons:

1. Reduction of Hysteresis Loss:
Silicon steel stampings have a high percentage of silicon content, which reduces the hysteresis loss in the armature core. Hysteresis loss occurs due to the repeated magnetization and demagnetization of the core material when the armature rotates, and the use of silicon steel stampings reduces this loss and increases the efficiency of the machine.

2. Reduction of Eddy Current Loss:
The use of silicon steel stampings in the armature core also reduces the eddy current loss. Eddy current loss occurs due to the circulating currents induced in the core material when it is subjected to a varying magnetic field. Silicon steel stampings have a thin layer of insulation between each lamination, which reduces the eddy current loss and increases the efficiency of the machine.

3. Easy Creation of Slots:
Silicon steel stampings are easy to stamp and shape into the required form. This facilitates the creation of slots in the armature core for winding the coils. The slots allow for the proper placement of the coils, which is essential for the efficient operation of the DC machine.

4. High Permeability:
Silicon steel stampings have a high permeability, which means that they are more easily magnetized by the magnetic field produced by the coils. This results in a stronger magnetic field in the armature core, which increases the efficiency of the machine.

In conclusion, the use of silicon steel stampings in the armature core of a DC machine is essential for reducing hysteresis loss, eddy current loss, easy creation of slots, and achieving high permeability.

Answer is wrong , Correct answer is both Hysteresis and eddy current . Remember Silicon steel is used to reduce hysteresis loss but stampings has nothing to do with hysteresis , it is there only to reduce eddy current loss . Other words for stampings is lamination in case you are wondering .
