This policy change by Saudi Arabia government is seen as a move towards expansion of private sector and women employment. The ministry of commerce and investment has stated that, women can start their own businesses and benefit from (governmental) e-services without getting consent from a guardian. Generally, the guardian is a male relative – husband, father or brother of the woman. This move is a great deviation from the guardianship system of Saudi Arabia.
