This implies that both a and d are wrong options. Now the groups are in meta position of each other thus the substituted benzene must be electron withdrawing hence before reduction friedel craft alkylation must take place. If reduction occurs first the aldehyde part (C=O) becomes reduced and therefore the group becomes a R group (Ortho para directing). Therefore the order must be option B.
