Isothermal, Adiabatic, Polytropic and Hyperbolic Processes

A process, in which the gas is heated or expanded in such a way that the product of its pressure and volume remains constant, is called a hyperbolic process. Let's discuss the other three processes.

Isothermal Process

An isothermal process is a thermodynamic process that takes place at a constant temperature. During this process, the internal energy of the system remains constant, and heat is transferred to or from the system to maintain a constant temperature. As a result, the pressure and volume of the gas are inversely proportional to each other.

Adiabatic Process

An adiabatic process is a thermodynamic process in which no heat is transferred to or from the system. The internal energy of the system changes, and the work done on or by the system is used to change the temperature of the gas. During this process, the pressure and volume of the gas are related by the adiabatic equation.

Polytropic Process

A polytropic process is a thermodynamic process in which the pressure and volume of the gas are related by the equation PV^n = C, where n is a constant. This equation is used to describe a wide range of processes, including isothermal, adiabatic, and hyperbolic processes.

Hyperbolic Process

A hyperbolic process is a thermodynamic process in which the product of the pressure and volume of the gas remains constant. During this process, the internal energy of the system changes, and heat is transferred to or from the system to maintain the constant pressure-volume product. The pressure and volume of the gas are related by the hyperbolic equation.
