The problem of stability of disperse systems is one of the key problems in colloid chemistry. This is due to the fact that most colloids are thermodynamically unstable, and their dispersed phase particles tend to aggregate. ... Unstable systems are exposed to coagulation leading to the formation of larger particles.
Colloidal solution case: -
lyophilic colloidal solution forms a solvent layer around colloidal particles this coating of solvent does not allow colloidal particles to move and provide a stable condition
while in case of lyophobic colloidal solutions, where dispersed phase particles have no interaction towards the dispersion medium and so no solvated layer is present and are not stable.
That's why we say that , lyophilic colloidal solutions are more stable than the lyophobic cooloidal solutions.
