Given information:
Total sum = Rs. 312
Number of boys = 60
Amount each boy gets = Rs. 3.60
Amount each girl gets = Rs. 2.40

To find: Number of girls

Solution:
Let the number of girls be 'x'

Total number of people (boys and girls) = 60 + x

Total amount distributed = Rs. 3.60 x 60 + Rs. 2.40 x x

= Rs. 216 + Rs. 2.4x

According to the given information, the total amount distributed is Rs. 312

Therefore, 216 + 2.4x = 312

2.4x = 96

x = 40

Hence, the number of girls is 40.
