Surface Irrigation

- It is the most common method of irrigation.
- It includes furrow, basin, border, and wild flooding methods.
Sprinkler Irrigation
- Water is distributed through high-pressure sprinklers, which spray water in a circular pattern over the crop.
- It is suitable for all types of crops and soils.
- It can be used for watering lawns, gardens, and sports fields.
Drip Irrigation
- Water is applied directly to the base of the plant through a network of pipes, tubing, and emitters.
- It is very efficient, as it delivers water directly to the plant roots and minimizes water loss due to evaporation and runoff.
- It is widely used for fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
Subsurface Irrigation
- Water is applied beneath the soil surface through buried pipes or porous tubes.
- It is very efficient, as it delivers water directly to the plant roots and minimizes water loss due to evaporation and runoff.
- It is used mainly for crops with shallow root systems, such as turfgrass and vegetables.
Manual Irrigation
- Water is applied by hand using buckets, watering cans, or hoses.
- It is labour intensive and time-consuming, but can be effective for small gardens or plots of land.
- It is not suitable for large-scale irrigation.
