CLASS- 9 NCERT THE FUN THEY HAD EXTRA Questions: 1. Who is the protago...
Protagonist of the story:
The protagonist of the story "The Fun They Had" is Margie, a young girl who attends a futuristic school.
Reason behind finding the paper book strange:
The children found the paper book strange because it was very different from the electronic books they were used to. They were used to reading their lessons and stories on a mechanical teacher, a computerized device that displayed the text on a screen. The idea of a physical book made of paper and ink was unfamiliar to them, as the concept of physical books had become obsolete in their technologically advanced society.
Tommy's teacher's incident:
Tommy's teacher had once gone on a holiday for a month due to a mechanical problem. Margie hoped the same thing would happen to her teacher because she did not enjoy studying with the mechanical teacher. She found it monotonous and impersonal. Margie longed for the human touch in her learning experience, which she believed would be more engaging and interactive.
Comparison between past and present:
Margie believed that children in the past had more fun because they attended physical schools and interacted with human teachers and other students. She found it fascinating to learn about the olden days when children used to gather in a classroom, listen to a teacher, and interact face-to-face. In contrast, Margie's learning experience was solitary and lacked social interaction. She missed the excitement of going to school, playing with friends, and experiencing the joy of learning together.
Moreover, the mechanical teacher was programmed to teach the same lessons to all students in the same manner. It did not personalize the lessons based on individual needs and interests. Margie felt that in the past, children had the opportunity to ask questions, have discussions, and explore different topics in depth, which made their learning experience more enjoyable and enriching.
Additionally, the children in the past had physical textbooks, which they could read and touch. Margie found the idea of turning the pages of a book and experiencing the tactile sensation of holding it in her hands appealing. The electronic books lacked this physical element, making the learning process less engaging and exciting for her.
In summary, Margie believed that the children in the past had more fun because of the physical school environment, human teachers, social interaction, and the tactile experience of reading physical books. She longed for a similar learning experience rather than the impersonal and solitary nature of her electronic education.

She was astonished to see the book about which she had heard from her grandfather's grandfather as a little boy. the book was about schools that existed in the yesteryears and they found it quite strange because it had the same words printed on it when they come back again to the first page of the book. they considered the book to be wastage of resources because they did not last longer and should be thrown away after using it whereas telebooks lasts much longer and consists of million of books. so they found the book a little bit strange.
Once the history sector of Tommy has blanked out completely and County Inspector had taken it away for a month due to which he was not able to study history at there was an fault in the history sector of the mechanical teacher. So, she also had a hope in her heart that same things would happen to get away from her teacher as she didn't like this virtual way of learning but the County Inspector knew how to fix the geography sector and he repaired the sector in an hour.Margie was disappointed for her wish was not fulfilled and she had to put these homework into a short in a pinch code which she hated the most about virtual classrooms.
Margie thought that the children who went to the school that existed in yesteryears where teacher was a human being and all the children of the neighborhood went to school school together, laughing, shouting and playing in the schoolyard. All the children of the same age were studied together in the same classroom by the teacher which fascinated Margie the most about old schools. She thought that earlier children used to enjoy a lot for they are studying in the same classroom, learning things together and knowing each other . They could also help each other in homework and difficult questions as they were of the same age. Moreover, children learn a lot of things which could shape their personalty and learn other activities than studying in the schools i.e kindness, sharing, caring, politeness, honesty, friendship and be interactive etc. They used to go home together at the end of the day. so, she thought that it was more fun to study in a special building with other children.
