The Indian system of numeration uses the following place values:

- Hundreds
- Thousands
- Ten thousands
- Lakhs (1 lakh = 100,000)
- Crores (1 crore = 10,000,000)

For example, let's consider the number 245,678. In this number, the digit 8 is in the ones place, the digit 7 is in the tens place, the digit 6 is in the hundreds place, the digit 5 is in the thousands place, the digit 4 is in the ten thousands place, and the digit 2 is in the lakhs place. Therefore, the value of this number is:

8 x 1 + 7 x 10 + 6 x 100 + 5 x 1000 + 4 x 10000 + 2 x 100000

= 8 + 70 + 600 + 5000 + 40000 + 200000

= 247,678

The Indian system of numeration is a very efficient way to represent large numbers and is widely used in the Indian subcontinent.
