Two numbers whose sum is 45 and difference is 1/9 of their sum.

Let's assume:

Let the two numbers be x and y.

Equations:

From the given conditions, we can form the following equations:

  • x + y = 45             [Equation 1]

  • x - y = (1/9) * (x + y)             [Equation 2]



Solving Equations:

We can solve these equations for x and y as follows:

  • Adding Equation 1 and Equation 2:


    • x + y + x - y = 45 + (1/9) * (x + y)

    • 2x = 45 + (1/9) * (x + y)


  • Substituting Equation 1 in above equation:
