Reason for Periodic Defrosting in Domestic Refrigerator:
There are several reasons why periodic defrosting is required in a domestic refrigerator, and one of the main reasons is the frosting that occurs inside the refrigerator. The frosting occurs due to the moisture present in the air. When the moist air comes in contact with the cold surface of the evaporator coil, it condenses and freezes, forming a layer of ice on the surface of the coil.
Effects of Frosting on Refrigerant Flow:
The frosting inside the refrigerator can cause several issues, including the partial blockage of the refrigerant flow. The refrigerant is responsible for absorbing heat from inside the refrigerator and releasing it outside. When the frost builds up on the evaporator coil, it acts as an insulator, reducing the heat transfer between the refrigerant and the air inside the refrigerator. As a result, the refrigerant flow is partially blocked, and the efficiency of the refrigerator decreases.
Other Issues Caused by Frosting:
Frosting can also cause other issues, such as:
- Increased energy consumption: When the efficiency of the refrigerator decreases, it requires more energy to maintain the desired temperature inside the refrigerator.
- Reduced storage space: The layer of frost takes up space inside the refrigerator, reducing the available storage space.
- Reduced lifespan of the refrigerator: The excessive buildup of frost can cause damage to the evaporator coil, compressor, and other components of the refrigerator, reducing its lifespan.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, periodic defrosting is required in a domestic refrigerator to prevent the excessive buildup of frost, which can cause several issues, including the partial blockage of the refrigerant flow. Defrosting the refrigerator regularly can help maintain its efficiency, reduce energy consumption, increase storage space, and prolong its lifespan.

It's need everywhere....but today it is done by automatically so we ll not see ths much.it is caused becz the refrigerant having moisture or water particle which given heat to refrigerant by molecular momentum transfer and during evporator heat exchanging process or boilling off process.so they ll freezed inside evaporator and creating icing over tube and held up the process of flowing refrigerant..so after so time all room or freez compartment temp increase that time we need to remove the icing from the tubes of evaporator withthe hlp of manual or by auto mode....still it's all automatically done in small plant or domestic refrigerator.
