Moral Education in Schools
As a grandmother, it is understandable to feel pained about the absence of teachings about God and scriptures in schools. However, it is important to consider the role of schools in providing moral education to students. Here are some points to consider:
Importance of Moral Education in Schools
- Schools are responsible for shaping the character and values of students, not just their academic performance.
- Moral education helps students develop empathy, respect, and responsibility towards themselves, others, and their environment.
- It also helps them understand and appreciate different cultures, religions, and beliefs, promoting tolerance and harmony in society.
- In a world where technology and media play a significant role in shaping the minds of young people, moral education can provide a counterbalance to negative influences and promote critical thinking.
Challenges in Teaching Moral Education
- There is no universal agreement on what constitutes moral education or whose values should be taught.
- Some people argue that moral education should be taught in the home and not in schools.
- Teachers may lack the training or resources to effectively teach moral education.
- Schools may be pressured to prioritize academic performance over character development.
Ways to Teach Moral Education in Schools
- Incorporate moral lessons into existing subjects, such as literature, history, or science, to make them more relevant and engaging.
- Use real-life examples and case studies to stimulate critical thinking and decision-making.
- Involve students in community service and volunteering to promote empathy and civic responsibility.
- Encourage open and respectful discussions about values, beliefs, and ethics in the classroom.
- Provide teacher training and support to ensure effective implementation of moral education.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while it is understandable to feel concerned about the absence of teachings about God and scriptures in schools, it is important to consider the broader role of schools in providing moral education. By promoting empathy, respect, responsibility, and critical thinking, schools can help shape the character and values of students and promote a more tolerant and harmonious society.

Well I think moral education is the first thing to be taught in schools. It may not include god because everyone have different views on god's existence. But I think that rather than teaching it initial years.Moral education should be taught during teenage not in way of stories but as interactive sessions so that they can get a clear idea of how to live in a society and maintain its decorum. In modern years schools are lacking this and thus our youth is deprived of it.in a country like India which have rich tradition and culture it is the duty of us to continue the heritage thus education with moral learning is must here.
