Verified Answer
Lalit buys an article marked at Rs. 1,500 and gets successive discount...
GIVEN:
MP = Rs. 1500
Successive discounts = 25% and 20%
Transportation cost = 10%
Profit = 10%
FORMULA USED:
Total CP = CP + transportation cost
SP = (100 + P%) × CP
CALCULATION:
CP = 75% of 80% of 1500 = Rs. 900
Total CP = CP + transportation cost = 110% of 900 = 990
∴ SP = 110% of 990 = Rs. 1089
Alternative Method:
Single equivalent discount for successive discounts of 25% and 20%.
25% + 20% - 25 × 20/100 = 40%
∴ SP = (100 - 40)% of 1,500 = 1500 × 60% = 900
Expenditure on transport = 900 × 10% = Rs. 90
Total CP = 900 + 90 = 990
∴ Required SP = 990 × 110/100 = 1089

Lalit buys an article marked at Rs. 1,500 and gets successive discount...
Given:
- The article is marked at Rs. 1,500.
- Lalit gets successive discounts of 25% and 20%.
- Lalit spends 10% of his cost price on transport.
- Lalit wants to earn a profit of 10%.

To find:
- The price at which Lalit should sell the article to earn a profit of 10%.

Solution:

Let's calculate the cost price of the article after applying the discounts.

Step 1: Applying the first discount of 25%
Discount = 25% of Rs. 1,500 = (25/100) * 1500 = Rs. 375
Cost price after the first discount = Rs. 1,500 - Rs. 375 = Rs. 1,125

Step 2: Applying the second discount of 20%
Discount = 20% of Rs. 1,125 = (20/100) * 1125 = Rs. 225
Cost price after both discounts = Rs. 1,125 - Rs. 225 = Rs. 900

Step 3: Adding the transport cost of 10%
Transport cost = 10% of Rs. 900 = (10/100) * 900 = Rs. 90
Total cost price = Rs. 900 + Rs. 90 = Rs. 990

Now, Lalit wants to earn a profit of 10% on the cost price.

Step 4: Calculating the selling price to earn a profit of 10%
Profit = 10% of Rs. 990 = (10/100) * 990 = Rs. 99
Selling price = Cost price + Profit = Rs. 990 + Rs. 99 = Rs. 1089

Therefore, Lalit should sell the article at Rs. 1089 to earn a profit of 10%.

Hence, the correct answer is option 'B' - Rs. 1089.
