GIVEN:
Distance = 40km
Time = 1 hour (in downstream) and 2 hour (in upstream)
FORMULA USED:
Speed of boat in still water = (Speed of boat in downstream + Speed of boat in upstream)/2
CALCULATION:
Boat goes 40km downstream in one hour
∴ Speed of boat in downstream = 40kmph
Boat goes 40 km upstream in 2 hour
∴ Speed of boat in upstream = 40/2 = 20kmph
Speed of boat in still water = (Speed of boat in downstream + Speed of boat in upstream)/2
∴ Speed of boat in still water = (40 + 20)/2
∴ Speed of boat in still water = 30 km/h
