In a mixture of 20 litres, the ratio of milk to water is 4 : 1. If the...
GIVEN:
Quantity of mixture = 20 litres
Ratio of milk and water = 4 : 1
CALCULATION:
As per the given data,
Quantity of milk = (4/5 × 20) = 16 litres
Quantity of water in it = (20 – 16) = 4 litres
Given that new ratio = 1 : 4
Let the quantity of water to be added to be x litres
⇒ Milk : water = (16/(4 +  x))
⇒ (16/(4 +  x)) = 1/4
⇒ 64 = 4 +  x
⇒ x = 60
∴ Quantity of water to be added = 60 litres
