Letter to the Editor: Attention towards Increasing Chain-snatching Incidents in Chennai

Dear Editor,


I am writing this letter to bring to your notice the alarming increase in the number of chain-snatching incidents in Chennai. Over the past few months, there have been several instances of women being robbed of their jewelry while they were out for a walk or doing their daily errands. The situation has become a matter of great concern for the residents of Chennai, especially women.


Reasons behind the increase in chain-snatching incidents


  • The lack of adequate police patrolling in the city has emboldened the criminals to carry out these crimes without fear of being caught.

  • The easy availability of two-wheelers has made it easier for the criminals to escape after snatching the chain.

  • The lack of awareness among the public about safety precautions to be taken while wearing jewelry has made them an easy target.



Suggestions to curb the chain-snatching incidents


  • The concerned authorities should increase police patrolling in the city, especially in areas where such incidents are reported frequently.

  • Efforts should be made to increase public awareness about safety precautions to be taken while wearing jewelry.

  • Installation of CCTV cameras in public places can act as a deterrent to the criminals and help in identifying them if they commit any crime.

  • The police should also take strict action against the criminals who are involved in such incidents, which will set an example for others and deter them from committing similar crimes in the future.



I urge the concerned authorities to take immediate action to curb the increasing chain-snatching incidents in Chennai. It is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
