Calculation of Average Speed of Train from Station A to Station B

Given:

  • Distance between station A and station B = 4 km = 4000 m

  • Acceleration of train = Retardation of train = 1 m/s²

  • Initial velocity of train = Final velocity of train = 0 m/s

Calculation:

1. Calculation of time taken by the train to travel first and last 200 m:

  • Using the formula, v = u + at, where v = final velocity, u = initial velocity, a = acceleration, and t = time taken

  • For first 200 m, v = 0, u = 0, a = 1 m/s²

  • Therefore, t = (v-u)/a = (0-0)/1 = 0 s

  • Similarly, for last 200 m, v = 0, u = 0, a = -1 m/s² (retardation)

  • Therefore, t = (v-u)/a = (0-0)/-1 = 0 s

2. Calculation of distance covered during the first and last 200 m:

  • Using the formula, s = ut + (1/2)at², where s = distance covered, u = initial velocity, a = acceleration, and t = time taken

  • For first 200 m, u = 0, a = 1 m/s², and t = 0 s (as calculated above)

  • Therefore, s = ut + (1/2)at² = 0 + (1/2)(1)(0)² = 0 m

  • Similarly, for last 200 m, u = 0, a = -1 m/s², and t = 0 s (as calculated above)

  • Therefore, s = ut + (1/2)at² = 0 + (1/2)(-1)(0)² = 0 m

3. Calculation of time taken by the train to cover the remaining distance:

  • Using the formula, s = ut + (1/2)at², where s = distance covered, u = initial velocity, a = acceleration, and t = time taken

  • For remaining distance (4000 - 200 - 200 = 3600 m), u = final velocity = v

  • Therefore, s = vt

  • Using the formula, v² - u² = 2as, where s = distance covered, u = initial velocity, v = final velocity, and a = acceleration (which is 0 for this case)

  • Therefore, v² - u² = 2s(0) = 0

  • Thus, v = u = 0 m/s

  • Therefore, t = s/v = 3600/0 = ∞ (infinity)

4. Calculation of total time taken by the train:

  • Adding time taken during first and last 200 m and time
