Flat Belt Drive Velocity Ratio Calculation

Given:

Slip between driver and belt = 1% = 0.01
Slip between belt and follower = 3% = 0.03
Driver and follower pulley diameters are equal

Formula:

Velocity Ratio = (Diameter of Driver Pulley) / (Diameter of Follower Pulley) = (1 + Slip of Follower) / (1 - Slip of Driver)

Calculation:

Let the diameter of driver and follower pulleys = D
Slip of Driver = 1% = 0.01
Slip of Follower = 3% = 0.03

Velocity Ratio = (D/D) = (1 + 0.03) / (1 - 0.01) = 1.03/0.99 = 1.0404

Therefore, the velocity ratio of the flat belt drive is 0.96.
