The timeline of history is divided into four stages. They are:

- Bronze Age: This period saw the development of metal tools and weapons. People started living in settlements and started practicing agriculture and animal husbandry.
- Iron Age: This period saw the widespread use of iron tools and weapons. People started forming kingdoms and empires.

2. Ancient period

The ancient period refers to the time when writing was invented. It is divided into three parts:

- Ancient Egypt: This period saw the rise of the Egyptian civilization. The Egyptians built pyramids, developed hieroglyphic writing, and made significant contributions to mathematics and medicine.
- Ancient Greece: This period saw the rise of the Greek civilization. The Greeks made significant contributions to philosophy, literature, and art. They also developed democracy as a form of government.
- Ancient Rome: This period saw the rise of the Roman Empire. The Romans built roads, aqueducts, and other infrastructure. They also made significant contributions to law, language, and architecture.

3. Medieval period

The medieval period refers to the time between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance. It is divided into three parts:

- Early Middle Ages: This period saw the rise of Christianity and the development of feudalism as a form of government.
- High Middle Ages: This period saw the development of universities and the growth of trade and commerce.
- Late Middle Ages: This period saw the Black Death, which killed millions of people, and the Hundred Years' War between England and France.

4. Modern period

The modern period refers to the time after the Renaissance. It is divided into three parts:

- Early Modern Period: This period saw the rise of nation-states and the beginning of European colonization of the Americas.
- Industrial Revolution: This period saw the development of machinery and the growth of industry. It also saw significant changes in transportation and communication.
- Contemporary Period: This period saw the two World Wars and the Cold War. It also saw significant advancements in technology and the growth of globalization.
