Verified Answer
Father is aged three times more than his son Sunil. After8years, he wo...
GIVEN:
Father's age = 3 × Son's age
After 8 years,
Father's age = 5/2 × Son's age
FORMULA USED:
Required Answer = Age of Father / Age of Son
CALCULATION:
Let that Sunil's present age = x
Then, father's present age = 3 x + x = 4 x
After 8 years, father's age = 5/2 times of Sunil’s' age
⇒ (4 x + 8) = 5/2 ( x + 8)
⇒ 8 x + 16 = 5 x + 40
⇒ x = 24/3 = 8
After further 8 years,
⇒ Sunil's age = x + 8 + 8 = 8 + 8 + 8 = 24
⇒ Father's age = 4 x + 8 + 8 = 4 × 8 + 8 + 8 = 48
∴ Father's age/Sunil's age = 48/24 = 2 times

Problem: Father is aged three times more than his son Sunil. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Sunil's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Sunil's age?

Solution:

Let's assume Sunil's current age as x.

Father's current age = 3x

After 8 years:

Sunil's age = x + 8

Father's age = 3x + 8

According to the problem,

Father's age after 8 years = 2.5(Sunil's age after 8 years)

3x + 8 = 2.5(x + 8)

3x + 8 = 2.5x + 20

0.5x = 12

x = 24

Therefore, Sunil's current age is 24 years.

Father's current age = 3x = 72 years

After further 8 years:

Sunil's age = 24 + 8 + 8 = 40 years

Father's age = 72 + 8 + 8 = 88 years

Therefore,

Father's age after further 8 years = 88

= 2.2 times Sunil's age after further 8 years

= 88/40

= 2.2 times

Hence the correct option is (b) 2 times.
