GIVEN:
Difference in Selling Price by selling an article at a profit of 6% and 4% = Rs. 3
CALCULATION:
Let the CP of the article be x.
Given that,
106% of x – 104% of x = 3
⇒ 2% of x = 3
⇒x=32×100=150⇒x=3/2×100=150
∴ CP of the article = Rs. 150.

Understanding the Problem
To find the cost price of the article, we know the difference between the selling prices at different profit percentages is Rs 3.
Formulating Selling Prices
Let the cost price (CP) of the article be Rs x.
- Selling Price at 6% profit:
SP₁ = CP + 6% of CP
SP₁ = x + 0.06x = 1.06x
- Selling Price at 4% profit:
SP₂ = CP + 4% of CP
SP₂ = x + 0.04x = 1.04x
Calculating the Difference
According to the problem, the difference between these two selling prices is Rs 3:
- SP₁ - SP₂ = Rs 3
- 1.06x - 1.04x = 3
- 0.02x = 3
Finding the Cost Price
Now, we can solve for x:
- x = 3 / 0.02
- x = 150
Conclusion
Thus, the cost price of the article is Rs 150, which corresponds to option 'B'.
This method showcases how profit percentages affect selling prices and how to compute the cost price using basic algebra.
