DIRECTIONS for the question: Answer the question on the basis of the information given below.
There are seven cities A, B, C, D, E, F and G connected to each other by a circular track. The following table shows the shortest possible distance between some cities along the circular track. There is no city between F and D.
Q. If you can travel along just one diameter, then what is the shortest possible distance between D and A?
  • a)
    32 km
  • b)
    24 km
  • c)
    40 km
  • d)
    36 km
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?

DIRECTIONS for the question:Answer the question on the basis of the in...
►We have AB = 16, AG = 42 and BG = 30, this means A - B - G = 42 is not possible.
►The shortest implies B lies on one side of A and G on other side. Hence, we have

►Also, AE = 8, GE = 34 and AG = 42 it means =>

►Also, CE = 29, DE = 32 and CD = 27 i.e., in the shortest path from C to D, E is not in between. Hence,

►Now, there are two possibilities.

►Now, from above two cases, only in case 1 can F be placed such that there will be no city in between D and F. Hence, the arrangement is as follows.

►Hence from figure, the distance is 28 + 4 = 32
Hence the answer is option A
