Solution:

Step 1: Calculate the amount of phosphorus in organic compound

Given, the organic compound contains 6.2% of phosphorus.

Therefore, the amount of phosphorus in 10 gm of organic compound

= 6.2% of 10 gm

= 0.62 gm

Step 2: Convert phosphorus to Mg2P2O7

The reaction between phosphorus and MgCl2 is given as:

3MgCl2 + 2P → Mg2P2O7 + 6HCl

From the balanced equation, 2 moles of phosphorus reacts with 3 moles of MgCl2 to produce 1 mole of Mg2P2O7.

Molar mass of P = 31 g/mol

Molar mass of Mg2P2O7 = 222.6 g/mol

Therefore, the amount of Mg2P2O7 formed from 0.62 gm of phosphorus

= (1 mol of Mg2P2O7/ 2 mol of P) x (222.6 g/mol of Mg2P2O7)

x (0.62 g of P / 31 g/mol of P)

= 6.11 g
