Solution:
Let the cost of 1kg sugar be x.
Cost of 5kg sugar = 5x
Cost of 1kg tea = y
Total cost = 5x + y = Rs 90
Selling price of 5kg sugar = 5x + (25/100)*5x = 6.25x
Selling price of 1kg tea = y + (20/100)*y = 1.2y
Total selling price = 6.25x + 1.2y
Profit = Total selling price - Total cost
Profit = (6.25x + 1.2y) - (5x + y)
Profit = 1.25x + 0.2y
Given that profit = Rs 20
1.25x + 0.2y = 20
Substituting y = 90 - 5x in the above equation, we get:
1.25x + 0.2(90 - 5x) = 20
1.25x + 18 - x = 20
