Calculating Median Value using Graphic Technique



  • Step 1: Make a frequency table with classes and their respective frequencies.

  • Step 2: Calculate the cumulative frequencies by adding up the frequencies of each class.

  • Step 3: Draw a graph with the class intervals on the x-axis and the cumulative frequencies on the y-axis.

  • Step 4: Find the median class by dividing the total frequency by 2 and finding the class that contains this value.

  • Step 5: Calculate the median value using the formula: Median = L + ((n/2 - CF)/f) x w, where L is the lower limit of the median class, n is the total frequency, CF is the cumulative frequency of the class before the median class, f is the frequency of the median class, and w is the width of the class interval.



Applying the Steps to the Given Data


Size: 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, 50-60

Frequency: 3, 10, 20, 7, 6, 4



  • Step 1: Construct a frequency table:
