'A' has 40 teeth external (fixed gear, 'B' has 80 teeth (internal); C-D is a compound wheel having 20 and 50 teeth (external) respectively, E-F is a compound wheel having 20 and 40 teeth (external) respectively and G has 90 teeth (external). The arm runs at 100 rpm in clockwise direction. Determine the speeds for gear C, E and B.?
Most Upvoted Answer
'A' has 40 teeth external (fixed gear, 'B' has 80 teeth (internal); C-...
Solution:

Given,
Teeth on gear A = 40 (external)
Teeth on gear B = 80 (internal)
Teeth on gear C = 20 (external)
Teeth on gear D = 50 (external)
Teeth on gear E = 20 (external)
Teeth on gear F = 40 (external)
Teeth on gear G = 90 (external)
Speed of gear A = 100 rpm (clockwise)

To find:
Speed of gear C, E and B

Approach:

- We know that the speed ratio of two gears is inversely proportional to the number of teeth on the gears. i.e., Speed of gear A/Speed of gear B = Teeth on gear B/Teeth on gear A.
- Similarly, we can calculate the speed ratio for other gears.
- We can use this speed ratio formula to calculate the speed of gear C, E and B.

Calculation:

- Speed of gear A/Speed of gear B = Teeth on gear B/Teeth on gear A
- Speed of gear A/Speed of gear B = 80/40
- Speed of gear B = (Speed of gear A * Teeth on gear A)/Teeth on gear B
- Speed of gear B = (100 * 40)/80 = 50 rpm
- Speed of gear C/Speed of gear D = Teeth on gear D/Teeth on gear C
- Speed of gear C/Speed of gear D = 50/20
- Speed of gear C = (Speed of gear D * Teeth on gear C)/Teeth on gear D
- Speed of gear C = (50 * 20)/50 = 20 rpm
- Speed of gear E/Speed of gear F = Teeth on gear F/Teeth on gear E
- Speed of gear E/Speed of gear F = 40/20
- Speed of gear E = (Speed of gear F * Teeth on gear E)/Teeth on gear F
- Speed of gear E = (50 * 20)/40 = 25 rpm

Therefore, the speed of gear B is 50 rpm, the speed of gear C is 20 rpm, and the speed of gear E is 25 rpm.

Conclusion:

- The speed of gear B, C, and E is calculated using the speed ratio formula.
- The speed of gear B is 50 rpm, the speed of gear C is 20 rpm, and the speed of gear E is 25 rpm.
- The gears' rotation direction is mentioned as clockwise, and we have considered the same while calculating the speeds.
