Given:
Jay borrows Rs. 1500 from two money-lenders.
He pays interest at the rate of 12% per annum for one loan and at the rate of 14% per annum for the other.
The total interest he pays for the entire year is Rs. 186.

To find: How much does he borrow at the rate of 12%?

Let the amount borrowed at 12% per annum be x.
Then, the amount borrowed at 14% per annum will be (1500-x).

We know that the total interest paid by Jay is Rs. 186.
So,

Interest on x at 12% per annum + Interest on (1500-x) at 14% per annum = 186

(x*12*1/100) + ((1500-x)*14*1/100) = 186

12x + 21000 - 14x = 18600

-2x = -2400

x = 1200

Therefore, Jay borrowed Rs. 1200 at the rate of 12% per annum.

Answer: (a) Rs. 1200
