Inertia is defined as the tendency of an object to resists its change of state of motion. Induced e.m.f. in a coil is changed by the change in current or magnetic flux. The property by which a coil opposes these parameters to incur any change in induced e.m.f. is known as self-inductance. Hence, self inductance may be called the inertia of electricity. So, the assertion and reason both are true but reason cannot explain why so happens.

Self inductance is the property of a coil or conductor by virtue of which it opposes any change in the flow of current through it. It is measured in Henry (H). When the current flowing through a coil changes, a back e.m.f. is induced in the same coil that opposes the change in current. This phenomenon is known as self-induction. It can be considered as the inertia of electricity.

Opposing Induced e.m.f:
When the current through a coil changes, the magnetic field associated with the coil also changes. This change in magnetic field induces an e.m.f. in the coil itself, known as the self-induced e.m.f. The self-induced e.m.f. acts in such a way as to oppose the change in current flow. This is governed by Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The magnitude of the induced e.m.f. is directly proportional to the rate of change of current or the rate of change of magnetic flux linked with the coil.

Self inductance can be thought of as the inertia of electricity because it resists the change in the flow of current through a coil.
