Madurai Somu was a renowned Carnatic musician and vocalist from Tamil Nadu, India. He was born in 1923 in Madurai and started learning music at an early age under the guidance of his father. He later received formal training in Carnatic music from stalwarts like Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Tiger Varadachariar.

Madurai Somu was known for his powerful voice and his ability to effortlessly render complex ragas and compositions. He was also a prolific composer and has composed several kritis, varnams, and padams in both Tamil and Sanskrit. He was a recipient of several awards and honors, including the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Madurai Somu passed away in 1983, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of Carnatic music. His contributions to the art form continue to inspire and influence musicians even today.
