Directions [Set of 5 questions]: Eight persons A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H were seated around a square table facing the centre. There was one person at each corner and one person along every side. Each person chose a different number which was a multiple of either 7 or 9. The numbers were neither less than 10 nor greater than 50. The one who chose 49 was third to the left of G. Hence G seated along one of the sides.
  • G and E chose consecutive numbers. E chose a number greater than that chosen by G. Thus, the only possibility will be that one of them chose a multiple of 7 and the other chose a multiple of 9. Possible combinations: (27, 28) (35, 36).
  • The difference between the numbers chosen by C and E was 8. Thus, C could have chosen 20, 36, 28, 44. The only valid values are 36, 28.
  • C chose a number that was twice as that of the number chosen by A. A could have chosen 18 or 14.
  • The person who chose 14 was to the immediate right of A. Thus, A could not have chosen 14. Hence, A chose 18 and C chose 36. Thus, E chose 28 and G chose 27.
  • E was 2nd to the right of B. Thus, E and B will be at the corners. B was seated opposite to F
  • The person who chose 14 was to the immediate right of A. A chose 18.
  • A was 3rd to the left of H. Thus, case 3 becomes invalid.
