The numbers of men and women in a conference hall are in the ratio 4 / 7 If four men and 6 women join them in the conference hall, then the number of men and women will be in the ratio 7 12. Find the total number of persons in the hall (A) 44 (B) 42 (C) 66 (D) 24?
Most Upvoted Answer
The numbers of men and women in a conference hall are in the ratio 4 /...
Solution:
Let us assume the number of men and women in the conference hall is 4x and 7x respectively.
After 4 men and 6 women join them, the total number of men and women becomes 4x+4 and 7x+6 respectively. Given that their ratio is 7/12.
Hence, we get the equation:
(4x+4)/(7x+6) = 7/12
On solving the above equation, we get x = 6.
Therefore, the number of men and women in the conference hall initially are:
Men = 4x = 24
Women = 7x = 42
Total number of persons in the hall initially = 24+42 = 66.
Hence, the correct option is (C) 66.

Steps:
1. Assume the number of men and women in the conference hall.
2. Use the given ratio to form an equation.
3. Solve the equation to find the value of x.
4. Use x to find the initial number of men and women.
5. Add them to get the total number of persons in the hall initially.
6. Choose the option that matches the total number obtained.
