Solving for Quantity I
Given:
Length of train = 100 m
Time taken to pass the pole = 10 seconds
Time taken to pass the platform = 25 seconds
Speed = Distance / Time
Let the length of platform be x m.
When passing the pole,
Speed of train = 100 / 10
⇒ 10 m/s
When passing the platform,
10 = (100+x) / 25
⇒ x = 250 – 100
⇒ x = 150 m
∴ Length of platform is 150 m.
Solving for Quantity II:
Given:
Length of train = 500 m
Time taken to pass the man = 20 seconds
Time taken to pass the second train = 30 seconds
Speed of second train = 35 m/s
Speed = Distance / Time
Let the length of second train be x m.
When passing the man standing at platform,
Speed of first train = 500 / 20
⇒ 25 m/s
When passing second train,
⇒(25 + 35)=(500 + x) / 30
⇒ x = 1800 – 500
⇒ x = 1300 m
∴ Length of platform is 1300 m.
∴ Quantity I < quantity="" />
Hence, the correct option is (A).
