Let the number of students in class X is 7k, then the number of students in class XI will be 9k and the number of students in class XII will be 12k.
Given, total number of students = 280
⇒ 7k + 9k + 12k = 280
⇒ 28k = 280
⇒ k = 10
The number of students in class X = 7k = 70
The number of students in class XI = 9k = 90
The number of students in class XII =12k = 120
According to question,
7a+a / 90+a = 911
⇒ 770 + 11a = 810 + 9a
⇒ 11a – 9a = 810 – 770
⇒ 2a = 40
⇒ a = 40 / 2
⇒ a = 20
∴ The value of ‘a’ is 20.
