Understanding the Monkey's Character
In the story "The Monkey and the Crocodile," the character of the monkey plays a critical role in showcasing cleverness and survival instincts rather than greed.

Key Traits of the Monkey
- **Cleverness**:
- The monkey demonstrated quick thinking when he realized the crocodile's intention to harm him. He cleverly concocted a story about leaving his liver on the treetop, which deceived the crocodile. This act of cleverness saved his life.
- **Resourcefulness**:
- The monkey’s ability to use his wits in a dangerous situation highlights his resourcefulness. Instead of panicking or succumbing to fear, he devised a plan to escape.
- **Not Greedy**:
- Contrary to the suggestion that the monkey is greedy, his actions do not reflect any desire for more than what he has. His friendship with the crocodile was genuine, and he was merely enjoying the ride until the crocodile revealed his true intentions.

Conclusion
Thus, labeling the monkey as greedy does not align with his actions in the story. Instead, the monkey's cleverness saved him from a precarious situation. It is essential to recognize that the moral of the story emphasizes intelligence and caution rather than greed.
In conclusion, the monkey is best characterized as **clever** for outsmarting the crocodile and ensuring his safety, making option 'd' the correct answer.
