40 students in a school were supposed to select at least one subject ...
Let x be students applied to Physics. Students opting for chemistry is x + 10
Total there are 40 students
Students opting for only maths will be = 40 - x - (x+10) = 30 - 2x
21 opted for Maths implies
30-2x + 5 + 8 = 21
2x = 22
x = 11
Opted only for Maths = 30 - 2x = 30 -22 = 8
Hence, the correect option is (b).
