None of the students took part in Hockey and Basketball, & Cricket and Football. This means when we draw a venn diagram these should not have any intersection at all. Also maximum a student could participate in two sports, so there should be no intersection of three or 4 sports. From the conditions given we have -
11 participated in Cricket and Basketball, while 9 in Hockey and Football
49% means 49 students participated in total for cricket, 30 participated in Football.
Students who participated in only one sport be x - basketball, 2x - Hockey, 3x - Cricket, and x - Football.
We know the total is 100 students.
So Total Cricket + Total Football + Only Hockey + Only Basketball = 100
49 + 30 + x + 2x = 100 → 3x = 21 → x = 7
With this value we can redraw the Venn diagram -
Hence our answer is - 17+11+14+9 = 51
Hence, the correct option is (b).
