Directions: Given below are two quantities named A and B. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose between the possible answers.
Quantity A: A gun is fired from behind a train. The driver of the train hears the sound 1.5 min later than guard who was at the end of the train. Find the length of the train if the speed of sound and train are 1100 m/min and 60 km/hr.
Quantity B: A train passes two persons who are walking in opposite direction to the train at the speed of 5 m/sec and 10 m/sec in 6 sec and 5 sec respectively. Find the length of the train.
  • a)
    Quantity A > Quantity B
  • b)
    Quantity A < quantity="" />
  • c)
    Quantity A ≥ Quantity B
  • d)
    Quantity A ≤ Quantity B
  • e)

Directions: Given below are two quantities named A and B. Based on th...
Quantity A:
⇒ Speed of sound = 1100 m/min
⇒ Speed of train = 60 km/hr = (60 × 1000) / 60 = 1000 m/min
⇒ Relative speed = 1100 – 1000 = 100 m/min
Now, Length of train will be equal to the distance travelled by sound in 1.5 min,
⇒ Length of train = 100 × 1.5 = 150 m
Quantity B:
Let speed of the train be x m/sec
As, the train crosses one person travelling with 5 m/sec in 6 sec,
⇒ Relative speed = x + 5
⇒ Length of train = (x + 5) × 6
As, the train crosses one person travelling with 10 m/sec in 5 sec,
⇒ Relative speed = x + 10
⇒ Length of train = (x + 10) × 5
According to the question,
⇒ (x + 5) × 6 = (x + 10) × 5
⇒ 6x + 30 = 5x + 50
⇒ x = 20
⇒ Length of the train = (20 + 5) × 6 = 150 m
∴ Quantity A = Quantity B
Hence, the correct option is (E).
