Ratio of number of students, who passed only in section B on day 1 to those on day 2, is 8: 3. On day 2, number of students, who failed in both the sections, is 30 more than those, who passed only in section B. Study the following data carefully and answer the given questions:An ...
Let total number of students appeared on day 1 = 100x
So, number of students, failed in both the sections on day 1 = 35% of 100x = 35x
Since, number of students, who failed in both the sections on day 1, is 100 more than those on day 2.
So, number of students, failed in both the sections on day 2 = 35x -100
On day 2, number of students, who failed in both the sections, is 30 more than those, who passed only in section B
And Number of students, passed only in section B on day 2 = 35x – 130
Number of students, passed only in section A on day 1 = (35x – 95)
And number of students, passed only in section A on day 2 = (35x – 95)
Since, total number of students appeared on day 2 = 300
And number of students, who passed in both the sections on day 2 = 33(1/3)% of 300 = 100
According to question,
(35x-100) + (35x – 130) + (35x – 95) = 300 – 100
105x = 525
X = 5
So, total number of students appeared on day 1 = 100 * 5 = 500
Total number of students, who appeared on both the days together:
500 + 300 = 800
Total number of students, who failed in both the sections on both the days together = 175 + 75 = 250
Required percentage = (250/800) * 100 = 31.25%
